Industry Experts Talk At 2011 BETA Conference
More than 70 delegates from all sectors of the equestrian industry attended the 2011 BETA Conference, at The Belfry, near Birmingham, and enjoyed an entertaining and informative programme of specialist presentations and prime networking opportunities. They heard:
● Bauer Media Group commercial director Charlie Brookes set out to demystify digital advertising.
● Laura Coffey, an investigations executive from the Advertising Standards Authority, explain the do’s and don’ts of creating an ad campaign.
● Tim Hadaway, sport competition manager for equestrian events on the London 2012 Olympics organising committee, spell out the ways in which the Games would bring opportunities for the sport and wider industry.
● Julia Andrews, of Kate Negus Saddlery, provide handy tips for effective visual merchandising in the retail environment.
Delegates were also treated to “Seven Long Rides Around the World” with explorers Robin and Louella Hanbury-Tenison, who spoke about their trips on horseback – many of which have become the subject of both books and films.

Lady Harriet Milnes Coates, from the Worshipful Company of Loriners, presented the Lorinery Display Trophy to Ashley Hollands, of Speedgate Enterprises, winner of the BETA competition run in conjunction with the Worshipful Company of Loriners.
Many retailers who came along to the conference, on 17 October, earned valuable CPD points for attending the AMTRA-accredited event.
“We were pleased to welcome representatives from across all areas of the equestrian trade – both BETA members and non-members,” said BETA executive director Claire Williams. “As usual, our programme of high-calibre speakers covering issues that were both topical and timely was well received.
“The conference aims to provide the perfect opportunity for delegates to meet up, make useful contacts and learn something new – and, from the extremely positive feedback we have received, it certainly did!”
