Norfolk Industries for Disabled People (NIDP) is a small Social Enterprise employing people with a range of disabilities. The factory is part of a larger Community Interest Company called Independence Matters which provides care support services to people all across Norfolk.
NIDP employ a total of 7 people, 4 who have disabilities, whilst also providing a work placement programme to others who are long term unemployed and/or have other barriers to work.
The main commercial activity of the business is the manufacture of products for small animals, mainly paper and fibre bedding which is produced from recycled waste materials. NIDP has successfully supplied products to the pet industry for over 25 years and has a history going back well over 100 years in providing employment to people with disabilities.
NIDP manufactures under own brand Snooze and has recently developed 2 new products to enhance this range to their customers. As well as Snooze Cotton, Snooze Flakes and Snooze Tubes NIDP are now able to offer Small and Medium Animal Houses.
These houses are designed to engage small children with their small pet. They can colour in the houses with the pencils provided (or another material which is non-toxic) and then place in the cage/run with their pet. The houses are supplied with bedding material, apple chew twigs, a mineral block and instructions. The medium houses also have a bag of treats included.
The small house is aimed at hamsters, gerbils, rats and mice and the medium house is aimed at small rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas and ferrets. Please be aware that the house is completely safe for chewing and so encourages natural behavior in small animals.
All NIDP products are manufactured to a high standard and they are fully compliant with ISO9001, whilst also operating under the principles of HACCP for Non-Food manufacture.
NIDP has gained a good reputation for the delivery of a quality product on time and at a price that is competitive and reasonable. NIDP know that their products are required within a very competitive market and do their up most to provide a product which is both safe and cost effective.
97% of NIDP products are manufactured from recycled waste materials such as newsprint paper, j-cloth, food grade papers etc, ensuring that the highest quality materials are used. They are also helping to reduce waste going to landfill to the extent of approximately 140 tonnes per year.
NIDP’s customers are the most important part of their business and to this end they consult regularly with customers to determine: product suitability for different applications; improvements they can make for greater customer satisfaction; delivery period requirements; and other factors which ensure the customer is fully satisfied with their product.
NIDP pride themselves on being the best and would like their customers to benefit from this whilst also contributing to a Social Enterprise providing employment, work placement services and training to people with disabilities across Norfolk.
