A pet shop has joined forces with Manchester Dogs’ Home to help find loving homes for rescue dogs.
Cat McNish and Hayley Drinkeld opened Furrrr-Get-Me-Not on the third floor of Afflecks earlier this year, and were keen to support a local animal charity.
Their shop sells a variety of quirky pet accessories and treats, including vegan dog food, dog beer and baked goods. It is even set to introduce a range of herbal teas made specially for dogs.
Now Cat and Hayley have decided to help support the home, by running a profile of a new dog in need of a home every week.
They have also launched a ‘cutest dog’ competition to help raise cash for the north Manchester-based charity.
Cat and Hayley had long dreamed of opening their own independent pet store, especially since Hayley, 32, had to give up her previous career as a nursery nurse after being diagnosed with the debilitating auto immune condition lupus.
Cat, 43, said: “We love dogs, we’ve got three of our own at home and after everything the home went through with the fire, we just wanted to help.
“We’d dreamed about opening a shop for many years, so when a unit became available, we went for it.
Hayley added: “People have been bringing money in for the home, it’s been amazing.”
Cookie needs to be taken on frequent, but short walks because he has hip dysplasia which makes it difficult for him to walk for long periods of time.
He needs to go to experienced owners, with no young children, who are able to spend a lot of time with him.
Cookie gets on well with other dogs and does not have to be the only dog in the house.
Contact Manchester Dogs’ Home for more information about adopting Cookie.
